Internship

ROBOTICS SOFTWARE ENGINEER
WINGTRA, Zurich, Switzerland

 

Context:

This internship took place as part of my Robotics, Systems and Control Master's degree. I worked in the embedded team of Wingtra, a drone start-up.

Missions:

I develop C/C++ code for critical controllers such as the Flight Management Unit or the Onobard Computer. I work on different topics: communication during different components, preflight checks, drone camera payloads, improving unit tests.

Tools:

I engage with the PX4 autopilot open-source codebase, employing communication protocols such as Mavlink, UAVCAN, and uORB messages. My work involves utilizing various PCB buses like I2C, UART, or SPI, primarily focusing on developing code for STM32 controllers.

My active participation extends to leveraging GitHub extensively for meaningful contributions to the diverse company projects.

Challenges:

The highly dynamic setting in the fiercely competitive drone industry serves as a strong motivator, propelling me to consistently produce top-notch code while prioritizing customer perspectives. This marks my inaugural experience integrating customer considerations and comprehending the broader drone use cases into my coding process—an aspect I find particularly intriguing.

Internship

EMBEDDED ENGINEER
ROBOTIC SYSTEMS LAB - ETH ZURICH, Zurich, Switzerland

 

Context:

This internship took place during my first year of Master in Embedded Systems at ECE Paris.

I worked at the Robotic Systems Lab of ETH Zürich on the Hydraulic Excavator for an Autonomous Purpose (HEAP) project.

Missions:

I developed a 4G remotely controlled power distribution and surveillance system for high safety standards. The device can fully turn on and off a Menzi Muck excavator and trigger emergency stop in case of dysfunction of the top level computer. It can turn on the excavator to refill the batteries after long idle periods and monitor the current consumption.

Tools:

I designed the PCB with Altium, programmed the board’s microcontroller in C/C++ and interfaced with a SIMCom 4G Modem.

Challenges:

During this internship one of the main challenge is that I had to develop all the product by myself: the program, the PCB, the different plastic and metal boxes that I had to design as well. I really liked to develop a device that I had to integrate in an excavator and to control the entire project

Internship

June 2020 - Aug. 2020

SOFTWARE ENGINEER
ELECTRONIQUE-CONCEPT, Aubagne, France
 

Context:

This internship took place during my third year of Bachelor at ECE Paris.

I worked at Electronique-Concept, an electronic design company and was part of a team which was developing a new product for solar panel sun tracking.

Missions:

I developed a novel method based on RSSI for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN). The goal was to solve the problem of adressing MAC adresses and IDs. This novel method is currently in patent registration procedure.

Tools:

I programmed the algorithm in Python and used GitHub to maintain my project.

Challenges:

In the beginning the complexity of the project made it difficult to not be overwhelmed. By breaking down the mission into smaller pieces and maintaining a document where I was writing down everything new, I was able to be efficient and start quickly to propose solutions.

Part-time job

ELECTRONIC CONSULTANT & PROJECT MANAGER
JEECE - ECE Paris, Paris, France

Context:

JEECE is the Junior Enterprise of my former university, ECE Paris.

During my studies, I had the opportunity to apply for an Electronic Consultant position. I did several missions for companies or private individuals.

Missions:

  • I realized a project of a multi-input sound box driven by a Raspberry Pi and remotely controled via MQTT. This device is also connected to a website and a smartphone application.

  • I worked for a laboratory to develop a medical stimulating module including a microcontrollerand vibrators for patients lacking foot sensation thus losing balance.

  • I was also a project manager and lead different missions where I was the intermediary between the client and the consultant. 

  • I realized budgeted commercial offers for calls for tender

Tools:

I used Arduinos and microcontrollers, Raspberry Pi with Raspbian OS, designed PCBs with Eagle Autodesk and developed programs in C/C++, Python. To communicate in the enterprise, we used extensively Google Workspace, Slack and used GitHub for versioning during the missions. 

Challenges:

Every mission was different and gave me the opportunity to learn new things in a very kind environment. However I learned to propose competitive commercial offers, negociate and to be result-driven when it was necessary.
